About Me

I am a new empty nester, and I love to make cards and ATCs. I am always looking for ways to use the product I have, to learn new techniques and ways to do things, and most of all, to have fun with the creating of my art.

Baby Cards

These are the cards that I am doing as a set for my oldest, who has several older friends who are expecting.  I used my all time favourite sketch, and just changed up the images, paper and orientation of the cards.  For the boy cards, I used a blue striped card base, for the girl cards, I used SU Pink Pirouette cardstock as the base.  The images are all LawnFawn, stamped on a 2 inch circle and coloured with markers.  The patterned paper is DCWV "The Blossom Song" stack.  The sentiments are LawnFawn and Inkadinkado.

CST Challenge Card

CST is a group on Yahoo Groups for Canadian Stampers.. I have been a member there since 2003.... it was the first group I joined, with some prodding from friends who were already members.  The challenge for this week was to use ribbon or buttons.  I used both.  I started with So Saffron (SU) cardstock, cut, scored and folded to a standard sized card.  I stamped the Hero Arts stamp Envelope Pattern in Scattered Straw on the card.  I found a 2.5 inch circle of Apricot Appeal cardstock, and a 2 inch white scalloped circle blank.  I stamped the Poinsettia (SU) in Scattered Straw, and did the over stamping in Wild Honey Distress ink.  I stamped the sentiment (Inkadinkado) in Scattered Straw, realized it was too pale, so I over stamped it in Wild Honey.  I had some scrap ribbon that I used to anchor the layered circles to the card.  To finish the card, and add some interest, I added 3 red buttons, tied with pale yellow embroidery floss.  I also added some red Stickles to the poinsettia.  I happened to be working on Christmas card designs when I saw the challenge, hence a Christmas card in May.

CAS-ual Friday Challenge 2

This is my entry for the CFC2 challenge this week, which was to use twine and buttons.  Well, I needed to make some Christmas cards, so I did.  I started with some Cool Caribbean cardstock, cut to 5.25 x 4 inches.  I used my SU paper piercing set to pierce around the edges of the card, having the pokey side up for the front.  After that, I ran my Broken China Distress ink over top of the raised cardstock, and I also did a bit of sponging on the edges of the cardstock.  Then I took some Antique Linen Distress Ink, and sponged some ink on some other spots.  I took the sentiment (Inkadinkado) and stamped it in Broken China ink.  I found some hemp twine, and ran three lengths of is across the Cool Caribbean cardstock, putting it at angles.  I used a now retired SU set to stamp the poinsettia on Antique Linen Distressed cardstock, in Tea Dye and the over stamp in Walnut Stain.  Foam tape over a section of twine I taped together made  the focal point.  To finish, I cheated and used three button brads that I had in my stash on the bottom right hand side of the cardstock.  I took a white cardstock base, sponged Antique Linen Distress Ink around the edges, then I foam mounted the Cool Caribbean piece to the sponged card base.

One of my friends got some Craft Concepts Embossing Folders, and I was blessed enough that she ran a few pieces of cardstock through it for me.  This card is the result of one of those run throughs.  I used some DCWV cardstock from "The Four Seasons" pack (it's the Love scrapbook page) and cut it to just under standard cardstock size.   My friend ran it through the "wings" embossing folder (at least I think that's the correct name). I rounded the corners, then I decided to highlight the butterflies by rubbing Tattered Rose Distress Ink all over the raised areas.  Using some SU Victorian crochet lace, and Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, I inked up a piece of the lace, and adhered it to the butterfly layer.  I used another die cut for the flower (or was it a punch?? can't remember) and punched out a flower in pink Bazzil bling. I attached the flower to the card by using a button brad in cream.  To add the sentiment, I took some white cardstock, rubbed it with Tattered Rose Distress Ink,  then stamped the sentiment (Inkadinkado) in Victorian Velvet.  I put the butterfly layer onto the red card base, and I rounded the corners on the red cardstock.

CAS Card

I wanted to do a CAS card, so I used a chocolate brown card base, cut and scored to a standard sized card. I cut some pale yellow patterned paper (WalMart) to 3.75 x 5 inches. I took my flower stamp (Inkadinkado) and stamped it in Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I really wanted the flower to be the focal point of the card, so I used Mustard Seed Distress Ink to stamp the sentiment (Hero Arts). To make the card even softer, I rounded all the corners of the card base and patterned paper. I used some yellow ribbon (Michaels), wrapped it around the patterned paper, and tied a knot. Then I adhered the patterned paper to the card base. To finish the card, I added 5 yellow gems.

More Clean and Simple Cards

Here are a couple of CAS cards that I did this week.  The top card uses all Hero Arts stamps, some DCWV paper, some gold corrugated cardstock, Certainly Celery cardstock (SU), and Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I had cut some labels from white cardstock and gold corrugated ( I can't remember the label number, but it's a Spellbinders label).  While the white cardstock still had the die on it, I inked the middle with Old Paper Distress Ink.  I cut the gold corrugated cardstock with a larger size label. When I went to assemble the card, I stamped Musical Walk in Vintage Photo ink on the Old Paper label.  I rounded the corners of the DCWV paper, and  the Certainly Celery cardstock.  I layered the DCWV paper on the SU cardstock, then I added the labels, which were  already adhered to each other. I finished the card by stamping the Hero Arts Happy  Birthday in Peeled Paint.

The second card I did, I had much fun with.  I started with a white card base, then used Antique Linen Distress Ink to stamp the sentiment 3 times on the right hand side.  I took a matching piece of patterned paper, and rounded two corners.  I used Black Onyx Versafine ink and stamped the Flower.  I finished the card by adhering the patterned paper to the card.  All the stamps are Inkadinkado.

April's Christmas Card Challenge

For April's Christmas card challenge,  I would like to try something different.  Rather than doing a theme, I'd like to see you do a One Sheet Wonder.  The One Sheet Wonder I have used for this month is Jessica's Taylor's OSW, which you can find HERE.  I used some white cardstock for a base, and some Wal Mart Christmas paper I picked up on Boxing Day.  The stamps are Hero Arts, Inkadinkado, and Recollections.  Jessica's One Sheet Wonder makes 16 cards, I am only showing 5 of them here.  I did find that the card looked a touch bare, so I used some Hero Arts background clings to add some interest.  The ink I used was Distress Inks, in Shabby Shutters, barn Door, and Tumbled Glass.

The Colour Throwdown Challenge Card

This is my card for the Colour Throwdown challenge. I used Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive and Marina Mist cardstock. I did a 1 inch strip of the Marina Mist on the left hand side of the Olive card base, then I did a 3.5 inch square of the Pumpkin Pie. I then did a 3.25 inch square of white cardstock, so that I could stamp the images (Tim Holtz). I stamped the sentiment (Inkadinkado) last. I used Versamagic Olive and Agean Blue inks.

The Play Date Cafe Challenge 74

This is my first card for the Play Date Cafe Challenge this week.. The colours to use are a Lilac purple, turquoise, and white. I tried to stay pretty faithful to the colour palette this week, only using black for the sentiment, because it didn't show up in turquoise :)  I started with a turquoise card base, and using Broken China Distress Ink, stamped the Hero Arts Envelope Pattern on the card front.  I then punched out a 3 inch circle from some purple cardstock that was a failure of trying to use the Essential Glue Pad to stick Pearl Ex on.  I followed the instructions HERE, only I used the Pearl Ex instead of the glitter.  Sadly, you can't see the pattern of the envelope pattern on the circle that well, and the Pearl Ex got everywhere on the cardstock, not just on the pattern, and I couldn't blend it, hence the failure.  It works as the backdrop for the Hero Arts Hydrangea though, which was stamped in Purple Hydrangea Versamagic chalk ink, then punched out with a 2.5 inch circle.  I found some old paper I have had stashed for over 6 years, and it was close enough that I used a strip of it on the card base.  I lined up the hydrangea where I wanted it, then took the Inkadinkado sentiment and stamped it in Broken China Distress Ink, but it was way too light, so I stamped it again in Onyx Black Versafine ink.  To finish things off, I just foam mounted the circles onto the card stock, and rounded two corners with my Corner Chomper.

February's Christmas Card Challenge

This is Norma's entry for the ornament challenge.  She's used ornament patterned paper, the SU ornament punch, a MS punch, and gems for the card.
For February, the challenge to make cards using pink and ribbon.  The whole card doesn't have to be pink, there just needs to be some pink on the card, as well as some ribbon.  Here are my cards:

I used a grey cardstock for the base. I added some pink glitter cardstock and left a 1/4 inch edge around the card.  I stamped an Inkadinkado stamp (I think it's called Angels and Crowns) in black ink on pink cardstock, which I then punched out using a 3 inch circle punch.  I added some sheer pink ribbon to the lower 1/3 of the glitter cardstock, and layered the circle on top.

What will you do for the pink and ribbon challenge?

A Clean and Simple Christmas Card

This is the Christmas card I really mass produced this year.  I love it.  I had this poinsettia paper that I just didn't know what to do with.... until I purchased Wild Honey Distress Ink.  The colours were so complementary that I HAD to use the paper up somehow.  Well, I had this sketch from some time ago, I used it on another set of Christmas cards, but I like the idea so much I used it here too.  I used some Barely Banana and Cream cardstock for the base ( I quickly realized I would have no Barely Banana left  if  I only used that, so I went with Cream for the base about 1/4 of the way in).  The cream base cardstock is cut landscape style.  I used the poinsettia paper 1 1/2 inches wide and the height of the cardstock.  I taped it down well.  I used Fired Brick Distress Ink to stamp the Merry Christmas (Inkadinkado) on the base cardstock.  I took my Marvy 2 inch circle punch, and punched out the circle on cream cardstock (with the number of cards I made, it was easier and saved on paper to punch out first, then stamp the image on).  I stamped the solid poinsettia in Wild Honey Distress Ink, and went with the outline poinsettia in Fired Brick.  The poinsettia stamps are from SU, but I don't remember which set. I then edged the circle in fired brick, and foam mounted it so that just a bit of the right hand side was over the patterned paper.  I finished the card off by adding three golden gems to the top left hand side.

Christmas Card Madness!!

These are three more card designs that I have been doing lately.  I've been on a tear making Christmas cards, because my kids decided they needed about 50 between the two of them, and a set of 12 cards is a thank you gift to a family who has helped out one of the kids :)  I am still quite into the CAS mode, so the first two cards are very CAS.  The top card is a rosette patterned paper, with a Hero Arts Wise Men scene stamped on kraft cardstock, layered onto the patterned paper.  This was all done on a base blue notecard (dollar store).  The second card is also based on notecard from the dollar store, it's silver notecard.  I used some grey sparkly patterned paper as  a strip, then stamped the Happy Holidays on white cardstock and cut out with an oval punch, and foam mounted it onto the notecard. The card needed something else, so I added some sheer light pink ribbon to the sides to finish it off.  The last card I did I did for the Hero Arts 1.5 hour Scramble last Saturday.  The challenge was to use something that you DID NOT specifically buy for stamping on your card.  This was tough for me, since I seem to think of anything I buy in terms of stamping, but then realized that a used Bounce sheet would be perfect for some snow.  I tore the used sheet to fit my navy cardstock layer.  I then took silver ink and silver EP and stamped and embossed the Hero Arts Sparkle Tree. I then added the "snow" to the bottom of the tree. I needed a little something for the top of the image, so I punched out snowflakes in the colour of the base cardstock and added them to the navy layer.  I then mounted this on  to the base blue cardstock.  I used a Hero Arts stamp to stamp "Celebrate the Season" in Navy ink.

October Christmas Card Challenge!

Wow, this month has flown by so fast.. it's hard to believe that it's the last day of September already.  And this Saturday, will mark the 4th Saturday that my baby left the nest.  I'm doing well... it helps that we can chat on IM and the occasional Skype call.  It makes life much easier.. that, and I read my kid's blog... all on school life :)

On to this month's Christmas Card Challenge.  This month's theme is BIRDS.... you can use any bird, any number of birds, as long as there is at least one bird on your Christmas card.  For this card, I used a technique called Faux Linen.  I took glossy white cardstock, cut it to 3 3/4 inches square, and ran a piece of sandpaper vertically and horizontally on the glossy cardstock.  I made sure that there were a lot of grooves.  I then sponged Bashful Blue (SU) Ink over the textured cardstock, and got a nice result... kind of mixed shades of blue.  I then took two Inkadinakado stamps, one form Winter Birds, the other from..... Can't remember, but I set them up on the cardstock.  I then pressed my Fiskars stamp press on the stamps, so that I could stamp them at the same time.  I then used SU's Night of Navy ink, and inked the stamps, and pressed onto the Faux Linen cardstock.  I added a silver brad to the middle of the words, and mounted the card onto a 4 1/4 inch square card base, which is navy with silver specks in it.  You just can't see the specks in the photo.

Have a wonderful day, and don't forget World Card Making Day on October 2!!!

Cupcakes and Card Patterns

OK, here's another card I got done yesterday, while the hubby and the kid were away.  This card follows Card Pattern 76 and it also features cupcakes, which is the challenge for Crazy 4 Challenges this week.  I used a 4 1/4 inch square card of cream cardstock.  To that, I added some striped patterned paper, and also added a solid pink edge, done in a Martha Stewart punch.  The "brads" are three tiny cupcakes from a punch I've had for quite awhile.  The two bigger cupcakes are my first attempt at paper piecing.  I stamped the cupcake image 4 times, twice on light pink scrap card stock, once in the stripe patterned paper, once in the dark purple that I used for the cupcake "brads".  I started by colouring the pink cupcake bottoms brown, then carefully cut out the tops in the purple and the stripes.  I taped them to the pink cupcakes. the silver scalloped circle is from the inside of a cookie bag.  the sentiment is stamped in black on cream cardstock, and the stamp is from Hero Arts.  The cupcake stamp is from Inkadinkado.

Oops!!! I just realized I photographed this BEFORE I added the red Stickles to the cherries.... I will do so and update the photo when I can.

Edit August 12th : I managed to get another photo of the card, this time with  the glitter  on it, but my camera isn't behaving, and all the photos were a touch blurry.... I am not sure why, so I left the original up... below is the finished card:
